First, let’s break it down: What is a hashtag?
Not all social networks currently use hashtags, but users on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram speak hashtags fluently.
You are probably thinking, “Why should I be using them?” Hashtags boost your content’s reach and visibility. When you use a popular hashtag on a social network, that piece of content will show up whenever someone searches for that hashtag. For instance, if you’re hosting a program next week with a great speaker and want to spread the word, you’d harness the power of hashtags. We use #PeachNM to interact with our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram friends during webinars!
Make the most of your hashtag by trying a few of these things.
- Create promotional content to be shared on your social media pages with the title of the program, date, and a teaser of the speaker or subject matter. Include your hashtag in the posts.
- Work with your speaker to share the content and hashtag on their social media pages, too. The more people talking about the event, the better.
- Ask attendees to use the hashtag to share their thoughts and knowledge during the event.
- Watch the conversation about your content grow.
It’s really that simple.
Here are a few more examples of using hashtags in eLearning.
- Learners can connect with others using the same hashtag to discuss materials and share knowledge.
- You can promote your upcoming conferences.
- Your customers and members can provide feedback on previous programs or upcoming series they’re interested in attending.
- You can explore new eLearning topics or expand current offerings based on the successes of others.
- Influencers in the industry can connect with your users to share ideas and potentially partner with you in the future.
